CNAS Provides Medical Laboratory Accreditation Service for 2010 Shanghai Expo.

 

Medical laboratory accreditation has been a very important focus of China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS) since it began in 2004. Succeeding to the successful achievements of the Laboratory Accreditation Program for 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, CNAS joints hands with Shanghai Health Bureau to initiate laboratory Accreditation Program for 2010 Shanghai Expo. to the healthcare facilities in Shanghai, China. This program aims to ensure a reliable and recognized medical examination service for the participants and the tourists coming to 2010 Shanghai Expo., and at the same time, to facilitate medical laboratory accreditation in Shanghai as well as nationwide. Shanghai Health Bureau issued an announcement on cooperating with CNAS in this Program on Mar 17, 2009. The officially ceremony of initiating this Program was held by Shanghai Health Bureau and CNAS on April 16, 2009. The ultimate objective of this Program is to upgrade the technical capability and management level of healthcare facilities in Shanghai through carrying out well planned and organized medical laboratory accreditation activities. Many medical laboratories in Shanghai are now actively building or revising their quality management system, reviewing and improving their technical capability, and preparing for the formal application for accreditation.

The Medical Laboratory Accreditation Program for 2010 Shanghai Expo. is going smoothly with the cooperation of CNAS and Shanghai Healthcare Bureau. With the fulfillment of the on-site assessment of the Department of Laboratory Medicine of Zhongshan Hospital of Fudan University in Shanghai China on Aug 25, 2009, this program has achieved its first-step objective.

Besides the medical laboratory mentioned above, there are about 10 medical laboratories planning to apply for the medical laboratory accreditation before the end of 2009. With the further progress of this Program, these laboratories will be accredited to ISO15189 before the opening of the 2010 Shanghai Expo. and provide the Expo. with high quality medical examination service which is conform to the requirements of the International Standard.
