International Accreditation Day - China Forum was held in Beijing

 

On the occasion of the second International Accreditation Day 9^th June 2009, International Accreditation Day - China Forum was held in Beijing. More than 300 representatives from government departments, enterprises, certification bodies, laboratories, inspection bodies and scientific research institutions attended the forum. Minister Wang Yong of General Administration of quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China (AQSIQ), Director General Sun Dawei of Certification and Accreditation Administration of the People’s Republic of China (CNCA), and Chair Wang Fengqing of CNAS presented and made speeches in the Forum.

 

The theme of this forum is ‘conformity assessment/accreditation and quality/safety’. Counselor of the State Council, academicians from Chinese Academy of Sciences and China Engineering Academy, and representatives from government departments, conformity assessment bodies and end users made presentation respectively from their own points of view to explicate the relationship between conformity assessment/accreditation and quality/safety, elaborate the significant effect of conformity assessment/accreditation in promoting quality/safety, and summarize experiences and practices of using conformity assessment/accreditation to guarantee quality/safety. Representatives also expounded the process and function of obtaining accreditation, and reviewed the development history of accreditation with the focus on ‘competence ’- the theme of the second International Accreditation Day.

International Accreditation Day ?C China Forum was held under the big background of China carrying out ‘Quality and Safety Year’ activities. Chinese government has paid great attention to quality and safety, and nominated the year 2009 as ‘Quality and Safety Year’. A series of promotional events on conformity assessment/accreditation, quality/safety, and International Accreditation Day were carried out as important activities in the ‘Quality and Safety Year’ activities of quality supervision, inspection and quarantine community. International Accreditation Day ?C China Forum was the initiation of these promotional events, was regarded as a major forum and was held to implement the ‘Quality and Safety Year’ activities of AQSIQ with the joint effort from CNCA, CNAS and CCAA (China Certification & accreditation Association).

Conformity assessment/accreditation is an important component of a country’s technical infrastructure and plays an indispensible role in the technical foundation of the economic and social development of a country. Conformity assessment/accreditation is necessary for quality/safety, and accreditation of conformity assessment competence is necessary for the confidence in conformity assessment services. The action that china carried out a series of promotional events on conformity assessment/accreditation, quality/safety, and International Accreditation Day during the ‘Quality and Safety Year’ has demonstrated strong commitment that Chinese conformity assessment and accreditation community seeks to strengthen quality and safety, has given ‘International Accreditation Day’ a special meaning in China and embodied the Chinese characteristics of ‘International Accreditation Day’.

After this forum, sub-forums on ‘Conformity Assessment/Accreditation and Resource-Saving Society Construction’ and ‘Conformity Assessment/Accreditation and International Trade Development’ were held on 9^th June 2009. Moreover, Quality & Technical Supervision Bureaus, and Entry - Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureaus all over China simultaneously held promotional conferences on ‘Conformity Assessment/Accreditation and Quality/Safety’, and carried out discussion and practical activities on ‘Conformity Assessment/ Accreditation Serves Enterprises’ before and after 13 June 2009.
